3. Activation workshop

Many wild animals spend a large part of their waking hours foraging for food. In a zoo, however, it's not something that animals have to struggle to acquire. But what do animals have to do during all the time they would normally be "working for food"?

Students get an insight into why and how to We activate the animals so they maintain an active life with as much natural behaviour as possible. They also learn how to make activation feed and help place it in the animals' enclosures.

From polar bears in the Arctic, to camels in the deserts, giraffes on the savannah and orangutans in the rainforest. We take a closer look at the adaptability of animals and give examples of how their differently developed senses, behaviour, body shape and colours help them survive and even thrive in their more or less harsh habitats. The goal is that by observing selected animals, students will understand the connections between the diversity of animals and their living conditions.

10. Aalborg Zoo as a business case

Marketing, Communication & Experience Economy

Every year, around 400,000 guests visit Aalborg Zoo. The self-governing institution was inaugurated in 1935 and is today home to more than 1500 animals of approximately 126 different species.

The urban zoo emphasises nature conservation, sustainability, knowledge sharing, breeding cooperation for the preservation of endangered species, research and Fair Trade products.

In the course, we describe the company's development and discuss the importance of culture and society in general in relation to how we market ourselves and communicate in general.
The focus can also be on Aalborg Zoo's position in the experience economy.

Grade level: HHX, EUX-business and similar programmes.
Duration: 1½ - 2 hours (presentation and dialogue as well as visits to the garden).

11. Darwin in practice

Based on the animals in the Zoo, you will learn about evolution and speciation. Darwin's principles of evolution form the basis for this guided tour of the Zoo, which also focuses on the Zoo's role as a conservationist. Ethical issues such as animals in captivity, animal welfare and euthanasia will be discussed.

Grade level: Secondary school and high school/adult education
Duration: 1½ - 2 hours

12. Travelling the world through the SDGs

Join us on an exciting journey through the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students are introduced to the SDGs through play and learning, where they have the opportunity to reflect on and prioritise the different SDGs. Through a story about a trip around the world to all 193 UN countries, students choose the SDGs they think are most important to include.

The presentation introduces the SDGs to students, teaches them to work together and gives them ideas on what they can do themselves to help the SDGs move forward.

Grade level: 3rd-6th grade.

Duration: 1-1.5 hours.
