BOS Foundation

Aalborg Zoo is the only place in Denmark where you can experience the amazing Bornean orangutans. Through the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Aalborg Zoo contributes directly to nature conservation efforts and subsequently to the release of individuals.

The BOS Foundation reforests and re-establishes the orangutans' natural habitat, while treating and releasing abandoned cubs or sick animals when they are ready. The combination of re-establishing and releasing is extremely important for the species due to the many areas of conflict between humans and orangutans, but also the biodiversity in the restored areas flourishes.

The funding supports the reintroduction of individuals, including medical treatments, food and tracking devices to monitor how the individuals are doing after reintroduction and to monitor the behaviour of the species in the wild.
