Nature conservation and breeding programmes

We work in a structured and continuous way with breeding and participate in the   European breeding co-operation  EEP, which aims to save endangered species from extinction and to ensure a high genetic diversity among threatened populations.

Aalborg Zoo currently manages an animal population of approximately 2010 animals divided into 110 different species.

We work locally and globally

Aalborg Zoo actively supports projects and organisations in Denmark and abroad that work to preserve nature, from combating poaching in South Africa to reintroducing the endangered beach toad.
