Activities at Aalborg Zoo for the whole family

Aalborg Zoo offers a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed by both children and the young at heart. The zoo's central location makes it easy to swing by if you're in Aalborg - and the visit can easily be combined with other activities in the city.

Whether you have an annual pass and therefore visit us often, or just visit us on special occasions, you will always be greeted by new activities and experiences at Aalborg Zoo. On this page, we have compiled an overview of some of the best activities for a fun day out for the whole family. If you want to know more about the individual activities, you can read more below.

Current activities today and in the near future

Are you looking for what activities are happening today or perhaps during the upcoming holidays?

Here you can also get an overview of upcoming events.

Activities for children at Aalborg Zoo

A trip to Aalborg Zoo is made for children. For one thing, the animals are the main attraction. Whether you're looking forward to spotting a lion, lemur or lynx, you'll find them at Aalborg Zoo! But a visit to Aalborg Zoo offers many more activities than just our amazing animals. For example, we have several different playgrounds in the garden to challenge the body for both young and older children.

We have animals from all corners of the world living in calm and natural surroundings with us - take a look at our list of animals from home so you know what to look forward to and what animals we have now.

Zoo arenas

At the Zoo Safari Stage you can find out what it's like to work in a zoo and even meet an animal up close! Animal keepers talk about working behind the scenes with endangered animals at Aalborg Zoo in the company of the zoo's trained animals - you can get up close (but at a safe distance) to a reindeer, a mini pig or a flying falcon!

Another popular activity is the Make-up Theatre, where you can get cool face paint, a nice tattoo or braids in your hair. Who knows - maybe your child arrived at Aalborg Zoo as a human, but leaves as a butterfly or panda?

There are plenty of activities for children at Aalborg Zoo, which you can read more about.

Get close to the dinosaurs

Even though they became extinct 65 million years ago, you can visit EXTINCTION and experience an exhibition that will make the little dinosaur lovers in your family's life go wild. Here you'll get up close to 20 life-size, almost real dinosaurs and experience the story of how the mighty dinosaurs originated, lived and died. You can walk through the forest among T-Rex, Brachiosaurus and Triceratops - and you'll get a real sense of respect for how big dinosaurs really were.

The exhibition is included in the entrance ticket to Aalborg Zoo, and we dare to say right away that this is an activity you should include in today's programme.

Satisfy your hunger

You have to remember to recharge after an eventful day with lots of activities. And humans aren't like lions or snakes who can go for days without food - we need a little more regular energy. That's why we have a wide range of places to eat at Aalborg Zoo, where you can get something for the sweet tooth, for the dog-hungry and for everyone in between.

You are also welcome to enjoy your own food or coffee at Aalborg Zoo. We have a large barbecue area available where you can grill your food and enjoy it at the tables set up.

Experiences that teach you more about nature

It's no secret that Aalborg Zoo's heart beats for nature. In fact, our mission is to communicate knowledge about animals and nature through fascinating experiences and to contribute to nature conservation locally and globally. It's an ambitious mission.

This means that we want to teach you something when you visit our garden and enjoy the sight of our animals. For example, how animals live in the wild, what threatens them and how we can help them. That's why we make sure that your visit to Aalborg Zoo is not only entertaining, but also educational. At our many information boards in the garden and at our shows on the Zoo Stage, you can learn a lot more about the animals - and you're always welcome to ask the zookeepers if there's anything you're wondering about. We often find that children have more questions after a visit to the zoo than we have prepared answers for, so we recommend reading stories or watching videos about the animals after the visit.

If your child has a little zookeeper in them, there's a special activity for them too - they can try life as a zookeeper at Zoo School during the school holidays. Read much more at:

Make travelling a breeze

Who will find the lions first? What letter does elephant start with? And where in the world does a red panda actually live?

Although we have many activities planned at Aalborg Zoo, you are also welcome to bring your own. Why not play a game of animal bingo while you're visiting or take the chance to practice animal spelling? Perhaps you could organise a photo safari to take the best picture of the animals on our savannah? Or practise drawing the animals while you look at them?

Children often learn better when they're having fun at the same time, and a trip to the Zoo is an ideal activity for both fun and learning. The only limit is your imagination.
